AARPCV celebrated its Second Quarter Potluck & Bon Voyage Event at the Brownwood Recreation Center
in East Atlanta on Saturday April 20, 2013. Over 50 people attended, including an array of guests - RPCVs, Peace Corps
staff members, prospects considering the application process, nominees awaiting an invitation to serve, and invitees who will
soon embark on their 27-month journey as Peace Corps Volunteers (PCV). AARPCV extends its gratitude to the Peace Corps
Southeast Regional Office for its collaboration in this event.
As part of the overall
30th Anniversary theme, the second quarter potluck focused on Africa. The 30th Anniversary Timeline Project was promoted as
well, a physical clothesline-style display of significant events in AARPCV history. Members are encouraged to contribute
to this timeline throughout the year.
Various RPCVs brought food reflective of the region, and tables were brightly
decorated with traditional African cloths. RPCV musician Adam Klein (Mali, 2002-2004) shared his talents by performing traditional Malian music from his album “Dugu Wolo.”
AARPCV members and guests alike enjoyed the medley arranged by Adam and extend a huge thanks to him for his gracious participation
in making this event a success.
Additionally, AARPCV members present at this potluck approved funding for two
projects by unanimous vote. The first project is an AARPCV t-shirt fundraiser, while the second project will help fund a Georgia
PCV’s latrine project in the Zambia through the Peace Corps Partnership Program (PCPP).
The next AARPCV event
is a community service event, hosted by Global Growers Network at Bamboo Creek Farm on May 4, 2013. Also, please be sure to
save the date for the June 8th Summer Social!
