The Third Quarter Potluck, held on September 15 at the lovely home of John Fredericks and Kathryn Legan, was a smashing
success. More than 75 RPCVs filled the beautiful Druid Hills house to eat, drink, connect, and learn about AARPCV’s
latest achievements and upcoming events. This was the best-attended AARPCV event in recent memory, and we were especially
excited about the large number of newly returned PCVs.
RPCV Scott Stephens gave a talk about his work
removing tires and other debris from the South River in southwestern DeKalb County, detailing the issues of river pollution
in the Atlanta are a and the problems it poses for the environment and for local waterway lovers. He inspired member to help the cause,
promoting the upcoming volunteer project on September 22 to remove tires from the South River. Stephens' talk was
accompanied by a slide show of photographs showing the polluted state of the river and action shots from recent cleanup events. Also promoted was the sale of the 2013 International Calendars, available at all AARPCV events. President Maricarmen
Smith-Martinez updated the group about upcoming events for the last quarter of 2012.
