Volunteering News & Updates

ACFB Community Garden

On March 24, 2018 AARPCV members served with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. They mulched and mixed beds, stacked rows and weeded throughout the garden. The Community Garden volunteer event was coordinated by Erica Heiman (RPCV Mozambique).

Trees Atlanta

On October 21, 2017 AARPCV members joined other volunteer groups for a morning full of planting trees. Learning about the work of Trees Atlanta throughout the city, the AARPCV group assisted in Oakland City. After a morning of digging and lifting, the group treated themselves to a fun brunch in Grant Park. The Trees Atlanta event was coordinated by the team, Andrea Martinsen (RPCV Panama) and Rachel Murray (RPCV Sierra Leone).

Refugee Resettlement & Outreach

On July 22, 2017 AARPCV members supported New American Pathways, a refugee resettlement agency, in stocking and organizing their storage units. The units store items for newly arriving refugee families and it's great to have a team to help sort through donations and organize the units to maximize the storage space. Members also donated some household items and learned a bit about what the resettlement agency is doing. After organizing the storage units, a few AARPCV members were able to complete an apartment set-up for an Afghan family coming to Stone Mountain. Alla Yoonis of New Americans Pathways and Teni-Ola Ogunjobi (RPCV Mali & Senegal) coordinated this opportunity.
